Mission Augusta: The Nehemiah Challenge

For many years FBC has been reaching out to our community through volunteer service. Once again the challenge to action has been sounded in our hearts and minds. The challenge to reach out to our community will take place through a relationship with the city of Augusta. The Nehemiah Challenge is similar to The World Changers mission that has taken place in Augusta for the last ten years. Each summer hundreds of students from all over the Southeast come to our city to work and make repairs on homes that are in desperate shape. Students come to Augusta to paint, clean up yards, roof, and make general repairs on the outside of homes. Our church family will work on a much smaller scale than the World Changers event. In conjunction with the city our church will take on projects that will be beneficial to the home owner and to the community. FBC will work on a few homes at a time. FBC will be rebuilding our community one home at a time. So, as we add to our church campus, we will be adding much more to our community through this challenge.

This effort will take our entire church family; every generation has a part in this mission. This mission will require volunteers to pray, visit with home owners, make lunches and dinners for work crews, paint, roof, repair rotten wood inside and outside homes, build ramps, yard work, — I think you get the idea. The city will tells us about homes that need to be repaired. Our church will investigate the site and a team of volunteers will determine if the site is acceptable for our church. We sent hundreds of people to Biloxi, MS to help in the aftermath of Katrina. We can send hundreds into our community to make a difference knowing that you will get to sleep in your own bed each night and the snoring of other volunteers will only be a faint memory of a mission long ago.

Rev. Andy Jones is our new Minister of Missions and Faith Development. He will be working through the winter months with the city to identify the home(s) that will be part of our next project. If you are interest please fill out The Nehemiah Challenge Application and return it to the church office or contact Andy Jones.

Volunteers must submit an application to be included on an email list. Once your application is submitted you will be placed on the email list to receive updates about projects. Volunteers will need to sign a waiver for each home. Click here to get a  release form.
